Ribadesella

Ribadesella
The municipality of Ribadesella offers its visitors a great variety of landscapes. It has mountainous areas, hidden valleys, coastal flatlands ending in craggy cliffs, marshlands and beaches. Such variety enables visitors to enjoy nature in many ways, such as canoeing down the River Sella, horse riding, path walking, potholing, quad riding, diving and fishing.

Ribadesella is well known for its Fiesta de las Piraguas (Canoe Fiesta). This event takes place on the first Saturday in August.
THE CAVE OF TITO BUSTILLO Cueva de Tito Bustillo

No visit to Ribadesella would be complete without a visit to the sanctuary of Palaeolithic Art in Asturias. Here, by examining the paintings and engravings, we can see and get a feeling for how people lived here some 25,000 years ago.

Please note that it is necessary to make a reservation before making your visit.

IF YOU FEEL LIKE A  STROLL

Ruta de los Paraísos Marineros

This walk begins at the leisure port. You will then walk along the promenade alongside the Beach of Santa Marina and return through the Malecón Park. This walk can be enjoyed at any time of the day. During the walk you will be able to admire some fine examples of the architecture of the “indianos” (Spaniards who returned from the colonies). These are clearly indicated on the beachside walk. In the final stage of the walk you will be able to enjoy watching birds of prey in the Malecón Park.

A PICTURE POSTCARD

Panoramic View

We recommend that you go along to the Guía Hermitage to admire the fabulous view from the viewpoint there. This is a great view any time of the year, but the reddish tones of the evening sky in summer and the greys of the formidable north-west winds in winter are particularly worth seeing.

A FEAST FOR THE PALATE

Cantabrian Fish

The wonderful cider bars and restaurants of Ribadesella serve a great variety of fish all the year round. And everything is cooked to perfection by local chefs.

ATMOSPHERE

The pavement cafes of the town centre

There are delightful pavement cafes all over the town centre. You can find them in Gran Vía, the old town and on the quay. You will be able to enjoy these cafes at any time of the year although if you want to enjoy the wonderful outdoor atmosphere they are at their best in spring, summer and autumn.

UNIQUE TO RIBADESELLA

The Historic Port Route

We recommend the “La Grúa” walkway, just beyond the fishing port. The local people come here each day to enjoy a walk along this part of the banks of the estuary and to admire the murals with their drawings by Antonio Mingote.

SHOPPING

The weekly street market

Don`t miss the charming weekly street market. It takes place every Wednesday in the old part of the town.
