The Villas Marineras are seafaring towns situated along the coastline between the Rías Baixas (tidal estuaries) and the Bay of Biscay. They are therefore located in four “autonomous communities”: Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria and the Basque Country. Some of them are large towns, others are just small villages. What they have in common is that they are full of traditions and cultures that are closely linked to the sea.
The sea is the common bond. It adorns the coastline with the spectacular white froth of breaking waves and with the intense blue of its tides. It has given the local people their character and personality. It affects the way they feel about life. It is everything to them.
Nature has been kind to these seafaring towns. The scenery all along the coastline is unique. It is simply beautiful. In appreciation of this wonderful gift, the Association of Holiday Destinations “Villas Marineras” was set up to preserve these areas of outstanding beauty - woodlands, marshes, estuaries, rivers, islands, beaches and many other wonderful areas - so that they can be enjoyed by future generations.
We would love to share the great beauty of our towns with you and we warmly invite you to visit us. You can enjoy this part of Spain any time of the year. We want you to see how the rays of the sun mingle with the clouds to create wonderful effects. Above all, we want you to get to know our wonderful people, our lifestyle and our joie de vivre. “Villas Marineras” is an association of 14 lovely towns located on the Atlantic-Cantabrian Coast of Spain.
